Abono, Senator Chiz conduct medical missions

ALCALA – The Abono Party List and the Office of Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero conducted a medical-dental mission here last November 22.
The mission was intended to provide medical assistance to the residents here which include dental services, medical consultation, optical services and free medicines.
Mayor Manuel Collado and the members of the Sangguniang Bayan expressed their thanks to Abono and Escudero for having their town as the venue of the activities.

A warlord and dozens of dead media men
When I was asked by a reporter of GMA-7 TV to speak in the Ilonggo dialect in sympathy to my town mate Genalyn Tiamzon Mangundadato and the dozens of journalists massacred allegedly by the Ampatuans in Maguindanao, nobody understood it. Why? Those wide-eyed kibitzers – who were at my side – were composed of Pangasinense and Ilocano media men.
“What did you say there?” a confused scribe asked me.
Jestingly, I told everybody: “Ah, I said there that I pity the people of Maguindanao, South Cotabato, and General Santos City. Because of this monstrosity in its highest form all the media practitioners there were all-wiped out. Naubos na ang media men nila doon!”

DPWH chief lauds staff for helping flood victims

STA. BARBARA – The head of the 2nd Sub-Engineering chief of the Department of Public Works & Highways lauded her staffers for their extraordinary effort in helping the victims of the killer flood despite the fact that they needed help themselves.
Engr. Marietta Mendoza said members of her Disaster Response Team conducted rescue operations round-the-clock for several days when some villages in the 3rd congressional district were submerged.
“Sabi ko, kahit hindi sila nagpapalit ng damit puwede namang baliktarin ng tatlong beses, pero natutuwa ako kahit na nga lubog ang mga bahay nila nandito pa rin sila para tumulong,” she said.

Abono supports Chiz’s presidential bid

DAGUPAN CITY – Abono Party List will still support Senator Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero if he will continue his presidential bid, despite his bolting from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
This was bared by Abono Chair Rosendo O. So during the “Engkwentro sa Lenox” here last November 4 which was sponsored by the Pangasinan Press Club (PPC).
So is one of the leading members of NPC in Region I.
“Senator Chiz will remain an ally of Abono in our development programs in the province. He’s a part of the provincewide massive feeding program among malnourished and undernourished school children. As to his reasons of bolting the NPC and run as independent candidate, we will leave that to himself,” So said.

Noynoy Aquino lacks political savvy
Pardon to the Noynoy Aquino supporters but personally I found him to be not the presidentiable I am looking for. I was not awed, star struck and delighted when he answered queries from the local media during his visit in Urdaneta City last November 5. Instead, I was amused on his answers by trying to impress the media with his trite premises.
I was then expecting a Noynoy Aquino who directly points out his policies and plans. Although he enumerated his basic programs such as job generation, education, health and judicial reforms, aren’t these already performed by the incumbent administrations? What’s new? I was frustrated.
While Noynoy is being viewed as the man to beat in the 2010 presidential derby due to incredible results of surveys ( with only 1,500 respondents all over the archipelago), the fact remains that he’s not his father’s son. He lacked the eloquence of his father Ninoy Aquino and the savvy of his mother Cory Aquino.

Abrenica says Villasis set to regain progress

VILLASIS – Mayor Nonato Abrenica said he was all set to rehabilitate the flood-damaged agriculture and infrastructure projects and called on his townmates to be united behind him in bringing back the progress of the town.
In an interview with this paper, Abrenica said the unprecedented flood that occurred last October 8 and 9 this year caused tremendous damages on agricultural crops, live stocks, houses and government infrastructure projects that need immediate action.
The flood was caused by the intermittent rains brought by Typhoon Pepeng and the indiscriminate release of water by the management of the San Roque Dam.

Abono thanks DA for fertilizers

ROSALES – The Abono Party List, in behalf of Pangasinan farmers, welcomed the immediate approval made by the Department of Agriculture (DA) on the appeal for fertilizer subsidy for farmers hit by the successive typhoons.
The call for subsidy was made by Abono Chairman Rosendo So during a press conference in Dagupan city after typhoon Pepeng hit Northern Luzon which caused heavy flooding causing destruction to farms.
So made the appeal for the government to use part of the fertilizer donation made by Japan to the Philippines.
So said that the farmers are grateful to Japanese Amabassador Makoto Katsura, Agriculture Secretary Arthur C. Yap and Daniel Oñate, vice-president for marketing and national sales manager of Agrotech Agricultural Products, Inc., for granting the request for fertilizer subsidy.

Susmariosep, voters these days are like auctioneers
This coming election, the masses will be earning a windfall.
Just take what a mayoralty aspirant confided to me recently. When I told him that his moneyed opponent is already ubiquitous and generous in giving dole-outs to the hoi-polloi, this he told me: “Pabayaan mo siyang gumastos this early. Mabuti iyan para mabawasan ang yaman niya. But I want to tell you that my family is prepared to cough up to P100 million just to win the poll.”
This aspirant added he wants to show his opponent that the war ahead would be very expensive. He added that he would spend that mind-whopping amount just to win.
He doubts that his rival has even half of the saving he has for the war of attrition.
I learned a lot before what real politics from this veteran politician that I did not find in the political science books of Joaquin Bernas, Hector de Leon, and others that I used when I was teaching in college.
